Organise a meal where everyone brings something

A potluck is the best idea in the world right up to the moment someone has to coordinate it. One list, with quantities and a live view of what is already taken, does the job of forty messages and three identical quiches.

Where it starts

Dessert? Nobody thought of it.

Everyone announces their dish in the middle of the conversation. Whoever joins the thread late will not scroll back through eighty messages to check what is missing, so they offer the same thing as everyone else.

With Kankwa

One list everyone reads the same way.

You list what you need, with a quantity on each line. Each person ticks what they are handling, and the list shows live what is still to be covered.

How it actually works.

  1. 01

    List what you need

Savoury, sweet, drinks, plates: add each need with the quantity expected, say three desserts or six bottles.

  2. 02

    Send the link

One message in the group chat, a text, an email. Guests open the list and sign up in one click.

  3. 03

    Track what is missing

Progress is visible at all times. On the day, you know exactly what is covered and by whom.

The tools used on this page

Every tool works on its own or attached to the same shared link. You only turn on what you really need.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop ten people bringing the same thing?
Each line shows the quantity expected and how many people have already signed up. As soon as someone commits, the item shows as covered for everyone: duplicates surface before the day, not during it.
Can guests suggest their own ideas?
Yes, if you enable that option when creating the list. You choose whether those suggestions are accepted automatically or reviewed by you.
Is an account needed to sign up for an item?
No. Guests reach the list from the link and say what they are bringing with no sign-up, no phone number and no app to install.
How many people does it work for?
It works just as well for a dinner for eight as for a school buffet for eighty. The list keeps the same shape, only the length changes: the bigger the group, the more the live tracking saves you.

Everything on the table. Nothing twice.
